Aside from the first electronic, no wave, and post-punk artists cited as influences ' Suicide, Patrick Cowley, The Normal, Martin Hannett, Laurie Anderson, Public Image ' this new generation also show an exquisitely open source of electronic and disparate influences, everything from Underground Resistance to Purcell, from Scientist to New Beat. Most of the featured artists are based in Europe and include Krikor, Dissemblance and VQOA from France, de Ambassade from the Netherlands, Moisture from Sweden, Kreidler from Germany, Céline Gillian and Carcass Identity from Belgium. One exception is FIT Siegel out of Detroit, connecting the electronic pathways of Europe to the Motor City. Both come as heavyweight double vinyl housed in bespoke individual inner sleeves and the limited edition first pressing of this album comes with it's own free pull-out fanzine on the groups featured. The CD edition comes with artist booklet/fanzine and slipcase. All editions are printed in special dayglo colour finish. These first artists created new electronic musical landscapes as well as pursuing a stubborn D-I-Y aesthetic, often releasing material on cassette and pioneering use of lo-fi technology, primitive drum machines and home-recording techniques. As part of this continued evolution today many of the artists featured here also self-release their own material, run labels, publish fanzines, or are part of wider musical collectives.Aside from the first electronic, no wave, and post-punk artists cited as influences - Suicide, Patrick Cowley, The Normal, Martin Hannett, Laurie Anderson, Public Image - this new generation of artists also show an exquisitely open source of electronic and disparate influences, everything from Underground Resistance to Purcell, from Scientist to New Beat and more besides. Most of the featured artists are based in Europe and include Krikor from France, Beta Evers and L.F.T. from Germany, Lena Willikens, Job Sifre and de Ambassade from the Netherlands, Toulouse Low Trax from Germany, Dave I.D. and Broken English Club from the UK, and V.C.V.S from Georgia. All of the bands featured here make distinctive contemporary music out of the 80s roots of the first cold wave movement.1. Boombox is the new instalment of Soul Jazz Records' Boombox series on the early days of hip-hop on vinyl, featuring some of the many innovative underground first-wave of early rap and disco rap records made in the USA between 1979-83. // The album includes the first releases of seminal groups such as Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five and The Funky Four Plus One More, through to rarities and little-known obscurities such as the Carver Area High School band's 'Get Live 83', an awesome record made at a Chicago high school. // This deluxe double CD comes with a 30-page booklet featuring extensive sleeve notes, exclusive photography and original label artwork. // It features the stunning photography of Sophie Bramly, one of a very select group of photographers who were allowed full access to document the exciting early days of hip-hop in NYC. // These first exuberant wave of innocent, upbeat, party-on-the-block rap records were the first to try and create the sounds heard in community centres, block parties and street jams that took place in the Bronx in the mid-1970s. Where the first DJs - Flash, Kool Herc and Bambaataa - were back-spinning, mixing and scratching together now classic breakbeat records like The Incredible Bongo Band's Apache or Babe Ruth's The Mexican, these first pre-sampling rap records were all made using live bands, often replaying then current disco tunes. As Chic's 'Good Times' was to 'Rappers' Delight', the songs here feature then-current dancefloor hits such as the Tom Tom Club's 'Genius of Love' or Cheryl Lynn's 'To Be Real' while MCs rapped over the top, creating a unique new sound. // This new Soul Jazz Records collection celebrates these first old-school rap records, bringing together rare, classic and obscure tracks released in the early days of rap.

Tracks:
1.1 The Carver Area High School Seniors - Get Live '83 (The Senior Rap)
1.2 Mike T - Do It Any Way You Wanna
1.3 Chapter III - Real Rocking Groove (Rap ; Breaks)
1.4 Sinister Two - Rock It, Don't Stop It
1.5 Sangria - to the Beat Y'all
1.6 Funky Four Plus One More - Rappin' and Rocking the House
1.7 The Just Four - Girls of the World (Genius Rap ; Breaks)
1.8 Eye Beta Rock - Super Rock Body Shock
1.9 Funky Constellation - Street Talk (Madam Rapper)
1.10 Kool Kyle the Starchild - Do You Like That Funky Beat (Ahh Beat, Beat)
1.11 The Just Four - Jam to Remember
1.12 Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five - Super Rappin' No. 2
1.13 Silver Star - Eei Eei O
1.14 Magic's Trick - Magic's Rap
Title: Soul Of A Nation: Afro-centric Visions In The Age
Artist: Soul Jazz Records Presents
Label: Soul Jazz
Product Type: COMPACT DISCS
UPC: 5026328103938
Genre: Jazz
Release Date: 2017-08-25
Number of Discs: 1

Tracks:

Title: London Jazz Classics - Orange Vinyl
Artist: Soul Jazz Records Presents
Label: Soul Jazz
Product Type: VINYL LP
UPC: 5026328005911
Genre: Jazz
Release Date: 2026-05-29
Number of Discs: 1
Additional Details: COLORED VINYL, ORANGE, DIGITAL DOWNLOAD CARD

London Jazz Classics originally came out in 1993 - the first album ever to be released on Soul Jazz Records. The album brought together rare and obscure dance tracks in a unique mix of jazz dance and fusion, funk, Brazilian and Latin grooves. // The album was ironically titled - none of the music was from London, none of the music was traditionally classified as jazz, and all of the tracks were at the time practically unknown to most people. More than 30 years since it's initial release Soul Jazz Records are releasing this new 2026 edition, bringing the music once more to a new generation of listeners.

Tracks:
1.1 Alive! - Skindo Le Le
1.2 Emilio Santiago - Bananeira
1.3 Carlos Franzetti - Cocoa Funk
1.4 The Robin Jones Seven - Atlas
1.5 Airto Moreira - Jump
1.6 Antonio Adolfo - Cascavel
1.7 Hannibal - Mother's Land
1.8 Doug Richardson - Salsa Mama
Title: BLACK JAZZ RECORDS – The Best Of Black Jazz Records
Artist: Soul Jazz Records Presents
Label: Soul Jazz
Product Type: COMPACT DISCS
UPC: 5026328105925
Genre: Jazz
Release Date: 2026-05-22
Number of Discs: 1

This album brings together some of the finest music ever released on Black Jazz Records which in it's short four-year history, between 1971 and 1975, released over 20 superlative albums which all successfully blending spiritual jazz, funk and soul jazz of the highest calibre.Similar to other independent jazz labels at the time, including Strata-East Records and Tribe Records, Black Jazz focussed on a number of key artists, most of whom first established their career during this period, and all of whom are featured here.Featuring The Awakening, Doug Carn, Walter Bishop, Chester Thompson, Kellee Patterson and more.Black Jazz Records was founded in Oakland, California, by pianist Gene Russell and percussionist Dick Schory. The album comes as a deluxe 2xCD set with extensive sleeve notes, jam-packed with heavy bass lines, synth and Wah-Wah guitar funk, combined with the heavyweight percussion, powerful brass lines and all-encompassing Latin rhythms of Cuban music known throughout the world. It features rarities from legendary Cuban artists such as Los Van Van, alongside Grupo de Experimentación, Farah Maria, Ricardo Eddy Martinez, Juan Pablo Torres, Grupo Sintesis and Orquesta Riverside, most remaining largely unknown outside of Cuba but have long been favourite club tracks and secret-weapons in Gilles Peterson's record boxes! It reflects the most cutting-edge of 1970/80s Cuban groups - all searching for a new Cuban identity and new musical forms reflecting both the Afro-Cuban cultural heritage of a nation that gave birth to Latin music and it's new position as a socialist state. Peterson and Baker have been involved in Cuban music for more than two decades - Gilles Peterson with his many Havana Cultura projects for his Brownswood label and Stuart Baker with a number of Soul Jazz Records albums recorded in Cuba. The album tells the story of how the rise of Studio One Records and the Rastafari movement were interconnected, through the adoption of the Rastafari faith by key reggae artists everyone from the Skatalites and Wailers in the 1960s, major singers such as Alton Ellis and Horace Andy at the end of the decade, through to major roots artists such as The Gladiators in the 1970s and how Clement Dodd consistently recorded this heavyweight roots music throughout Studio Ones history. The sleeve-notes to this album also discuss the links between Rastafari and Studio One in time and place, noting how both the religion and Clement Dodds musical empire had their roots in the intense period of pre-independence Jamaica in Kingston, expanded in the 1960s following the visit of Haile Selassie in 1966, and how roots music then came to dominate reggae music in the early 1970s. Also discussed is how the outsider stance of both reggae music and the Rastafari movement relate back many hundreds of years to the original rebel stance of the Maroons, escaped slaves who set up self-sufficient enclaves in the hills of the Jamaican countryside. There is also a track-by-track history by the noted Studio One writer Rob Chapman (Never Grow Old). This new album comes as heavyweight gatefold double vinyl (+ download code), deluxe CD and digital album.A1. Horace Andy - Illiteracy2. The Heptones - Be A Man3. The Manchesters - Natty Gone4. In the 1970s, while Jamaica promoted it's own roots reggae styles around the world, powerhouse USA soul labels such as Motown, Philadelphia International and Stax Records were at the same time all popular on the island. // This interaction between American and Jamaican music was not limited to Jamaica. Many of these classic dub albums were originally released only in Jamaica in short-run pressings with special silk-screen printed sleeves, all with striking minimal designs, and which now fetch many, many £100s of pounds. // These tracks, credited to the Dub Specialist, use the original music tracks to seminal Studio One rhythms, which are broken down, reconstructed, and manipulated using the studio mixing desk as an instrument. With these albums producer Clement Dodd and engineer Sylvan Morris helped create some of the finest dubs ever known to man or woman! // The cover shows Clement 'Sir Coxsone' Dodd in orbit, an image inspired by DJ Lone Ranger's 1982 'Badda Dan Dem' album for Studio One, the cover of which portrays Sir Coxsone at the controls of a spaceship with the DJ in space. // The tracks on Studio One Space-Age Dub Special are mainly instrumental cuts with occasional snippets of original vocals brought into the mix. Lone Ranger's complete vocals feature on 'A Lie Gal A Tell', a 6min+ superb dubbed out piece of musical madness. In the 1970s, while Jamaica promoted it's own roots reggae styles around the world, powerhouse USA soul labels such as Motown, Philadelphia International and Stax Records were at the same time all popular on the island. // This interaction between American and Jamaican music was not limited to Jamaica. In Britain, first-generation Caribbean-émigré children in the 1960s and early 70s grew up with an equal love of both soul and reggae, which manifested itself in the home-grown arrival of lovers rock in the mid-1970s. // Soul Jazz Records' new 'Reggae Island Soul' tells this story of how soul and funk-infused reggae in the 1970s united the sounds of Jamaica, USA and the UK into a highly addictive cultural hybrid of styles.

Tracks:
1.1 John Holt - You'll Never Find
1.2 Cornell Campbell - Be Thankful
1.3 Elizabeth Archer ; the Equators - Feel Like Making Love
1.4 The Chosen Few - People Make the World Go Round
1.5 Dave ; Ansel Collins - Single Barrel
1.6 The Now Generation - Shaft
1.7 The Marvels - Some Day We'll Be Together
1.8 The Darker Shades of Black - War
1.9 Winston Curtis - Private Number
1.10 Lee Perry ; the Upsetters - Bathroom Skank
1.11 Slim Smith - Watch This Sound
1.12 Winston Francis - Sitting in the Park
1.13 The Sensations - If I Don't Watch Out
1.14 Carl Bert ; the Cimarons - Slipping Into Darkness
1.15 The Darker Shades of Black - Ball of Confusion
1.16 Jah Youth - Ain't No Sunshine
Title: Studio One Funk
Artist: Soul Jazz Records Presents
Label: Soul Jazz
Product Type: COMPACT DISCS
UPC: 5026328400976
Genre: Reggae
Release Date: 2023-03-17
Number of Discs: 1
Additional Details: LIMITED EDITION, JEWEL CASE PACKAGING

Soul Jazz Records Presents (ArSoul Jazz Records' long out of print classic 'Studio One Funk' collection is being re-released in a new one-off limited-edition coloured pressing 18th anniversary format edition! From the earliest days when Clement 'Sir Coxsone' Dodd ran his Downbeat soundsystem up and down the length of Jamaica, DJs and toasters such as King Stitt and Count Machukie were always a part of the sound of Studio One, introducing new records and exciting audiences with catchphrase lines such as: 'No matter what the people say these sounds lead the way It's the order of the day from your boss deejay' King Stitt So when DJ emerged as a distinct reggae style at the start of the 1970s, Studio One was, as always, way ahead of their competitors. Legendary artists of the calibre of Dillinger, Dennis Alcapone and Prince Jazzbo all queued up to record for the equally legendary label. At the end of the 1970s, as dancehall exploded onto the island, Clement Dodd was once again able to maintain Studio One's position on the throne as the number one sound in the Jamaica, fighting off upstart competitors such as Channel One and Joe Gibbs who tried to replicate Studio One's unique sound. During this period Clement Dodd released a series of stunning dancehall releases from young DJ/dancehall artists at the label including Lone Ranger and Michigan & Smiley. This selection spans the early 70s up until the mid-1980s, from the earliest days of deejay toasting right up until digital dancehall, ground-breaking tracks over the finest selection of the ultimate Studio One rhythms and tracks. Who could ask for more? Studio One DJ Party includes specially commissioned sleevenotes by Chris Lane, founder of the legendary British reggae label Fashion Records, as well as fantastic original artwork commissioned by the illustrator Ski Williams.

Tracks:

Soul Jazz Records Presents: 600% DYNAMITE! While the righteousness of blackness is at the heart of the Rastafarian faith, this collection illustrates how black pride remained a central theme, if not the defining essence, at the very core of all the music created at Studio One Records under the direction of Clement 'Sir Coxsone' Dodd. In order to understand the centrality of black identity in the music created at Studio One, we need look no further than Clement 'Sir Coxsone' Dodd who created the first black-owned record company in Jamaica. In similar fashion Alton Ellis's defining 'Black Man's Pride' brings up emotions that are at the heart of many of these uplifting songs. Alton Ellis' birthplace was the Trench Town ghetto of Kingston, also the birthplace of The Wailers, Ken Boothe and many other Studio One luminaries. Clement Dodd established a musical empire firmly rooted by the core musicians working at Studio One, many of whom came out of the Alpha School for Wayward Boys, essentially an orphanage run by Roman Catholic nuns, whose luminaries include Don Drummond, Johnny Moore, Leroy 'Horsemouth' Wallace, Cedric Brooks, Vin Gordon, Tommy McCook & more. Many of the songs featured here come from the transitory phase in reggae at the start of the 1970s, after the exhilaration of Ska and following the cooling down of Rocksteady. While reggae awaited the arrival of roots, Studio One's vocalists were already producing some of the moodiest music imaginable! Here are 18 heavyweight tunes, both classic cuts and super-rare tunes!1. Alton Ellis - Black Man's Pride2. Horace Andy - Child Of The Ghetto3. Dennis Brown - Created By The Father4. Ska, rocksteady, funky reggae, roots, dub mixes, disco mixes, they're all here from the queens of the Jamaican music scene - Studio One Women features a wide mix of classics and obscurities from the finest female voices in reggae. Until now most of these tracks have only been available as extremely hard to find Jamaican 7 inch and 12 inch singles and even if you were lucky enough to find them they'd cost you a small fortune. Marcia Griffiths and Rita Marley (here with her first group The Soulettes) are two of Jamaica's most famous female singers hugely popular today. Both these artists became internationally famous as The I - Threes (with Judy Mowatt), Bob Marley's backing singers alongside The Wailers. Also featured are Hortense Ellis, sister of Alton who cut many smash hits on the island, and Jennifer Lara, a lady who had a long career with Studio One, singing on countless sides. Studio One is the greatest label in the history of reggae and is the foundation of all reggae music. It's where virtually every world renowned Jamaican superstar started out, Bob Marley and The Wailers included. Under the guidance of the legendary Clement Coxsone Dodd the musicians at Studio One recorded hundreds of instrumental rhythms which still provide the backbone for many of the records made in Jamaica today.1.
